| Through my research, teaching, and engagement in different type of co-curricular activities, I have tried to develop an attachment and commitment to History of Society and culture. My experience enables me to analyse links between society and development of mankind and day to day happenings.. As researcher and teacher, I integrate area studies with debates in international history, tried to judge development of history from standpoints of politics, economics, social norms, culture and Press. I primarily researched on socio-cultural and intellectual histories 20th c. India, in areas like Nationalism, Development of Fourth Estate in India with special reference to the development of journalism during 20th century. My PhD, from University of Calcutta, studied how the journals like The Modern Review and Prabasi under the able editorship of one of the finest intellectuals of India Sri Ramananda Chattopadhyay debated about democracy, international politics, Indian nationalism and above all the negative approach of the then British Government. The focus of my postdoctoral research was on rise of vernacular press in Bengal during 1920 – 1947 and linguistic sub nationalism and another project just submitted on Modern Review. I have designed and taught courses on modern Europe and International Relations and especially history of Journalism, in different colleges, guiding students in research and outreach. |
